STUDENT DISABILITY ADVOCACY PROJECT
How We Help Parents of Students with Mental Health Conditions
When a child receives a mental health diagnosis, parents don't get a guidebook on how to help their kid succeed in school. For many families, the diagnosis is an explanation for behavioral problems, attendance difficulties and bad grades, but does little to help to students overcome those obstacles.

The Student Disability Advocacy Project can help. We assist parents whose children are at risk of school removal or referrals to law enforcement. We educate parents about the rights of students with disabilities and assist them in advocating for their kids.
When necessary, we provide free legal representation to ensure that their children's rights are protected. After we resolve the immediate issues, we connect parents with community-based educational advocates to support the family in the future.

We work with families all around Western Pennsylvania. And the law recognizes that families come in many different forms, so we assist foster parents, legal guardians and relative caretakers in addition to legal parents.
